At 2020 Flooring, we install the industry's top luxury vinyl brands including COREtec, Shaw Floorte, and Mohawk. Whether you need waterproof flooring for a basement renovation, a durable kitchen floor that handles heavy traffic, or a beautiful bathroom floor that stands up to daily moisture, our certified installers deliver precision results on every project.
LVP vs. LVT: Understanding the Difference
Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)
Long, narrow planks designed to replicate the look of real hardwood flooring. Available in a wide range of wood species looks including oak, hickory, walnut, and maple. Plank widths typically range from 5 to 9 inches for an authentic wood appearance.
Best for: Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, kitchens
Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)
Square or rectangular tiles that replicate the look of natural stone, ceramic, or concrete. Available in marble, travertine, slate, and modern concrete looks. Tile formats range from 12x12 to 18x36 inches for varied design options.
Best for: Bathrooms, entryways, kitchens, laundry rooms
100% Waterproof Performance
Unlike traditional hardwood or laminate, luxury vinyl plank and tile feature a rigid or WPC/SPC core that is completely impervious to water. This means your floors will never swell, warp, or buckle from spills, pet accidents, or humidity changes.
WPC Core
Wood Plastic Composite core offers a slightly softer feel underfoot with excellent waterproof protection. Warmer and quieter than SPC options.
SPC Core
Stone Polymer Composite core provides maximum rigidity and dimensional stability. Ideal for areas with heavy traffic or temperature fluctuations.
Rigid Core
Enhanced rigidity allows installation over minor subfloor imperfections. Premium products feature attached underlayment for faster, quieter installation.
Premium Brands We Install
COREtec
The original rigid core luxury vinyl brand. COREtec floors feature patented CoreTec Plus technology with an attached cork underlayment for comfort, sound absorption, and warmth. Available in stunning wood and stone visuals.
Lifetime residential warranty

All Pet Protection warranty
Installation Methods
Click-Lock Floating
The most popular installation method for residential LVP and LVT. Planks or tiles snap together using precision-engineered locking systems without glue or nails. The floor floats over the subfloor, allowing for natural expansion and contraction. Faster installation and easier to replace individual planks if needed.
Glue-Down
Each plank or tile is adhered directly to the subfloor using a full-spread adhesive. Glue-down installation provides a more solid feel underfoot and is preferred for large open spaces, commercial applications, and areas with heavy rolling traffic. Requires a perfectly smooth, level subfloor.
Best Rooms for Luxury Vinyl Flooring
Kitchens
Waterproof protection against spills, comfortable underfoot during long cooking sessions, and easy to clean. Wood-look LVP brings warmth to kitchen designs.
Bathrooms
100% waterproof performance makes LVP and LVT ideal for bathrooms. Stone-look tiles offer the elegance of marble or travertine without the sealing and maintenance.
Basements
Moisture-prone basements are perfect for luxury vinyl. The waterproof core handles humidity and minor moisture without damage, and rigid core products install directly over concrete.
Living Rooms
Wide-plank wood-look LVP creates a stunning focal point for living areas. Scratch resistance handles pets and furniture with ease.
Bedrooms
Quiet and warm underfoot with attached underlayment options. LVP delivers the hardwood look many homeowners prefer for bedrooms.
Entryways
Handles muddy boots, wet umbrellas, and heavy foot traffic without showing wear. Stone-look LVT creates a striking first impression.

Is luxury vinyl really waterproof?
Yes, most modern LVP/LVT products are 100% waterproof, making them ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and laundry rooms.
How does LVP compare to hardwood?
LVP costs less, is waterproof, more scratch-resistant, and easier to maintain than hardwood. Modern LVP closely mimics the look and texture of real wood.

Expert Tips From Our Installers
Choose SPC (stone polymer composite) core for areas with temperature swings like sunrooms and entryways. SPC is more rigid and temperature-stable than WPC. WPC is softer underfoot and better for bedrooms.
Pay attention to the wear layer thickness, not just the total plank thickness. A 6mm plank with a 20-mil wear layer will outlast an 8mm plank with a 12-mil wear layer.
Current Pricing
Starting at $4 per sq ft installed
LVP offers excellent value. Includes click-lock floating installation. Glue-down commercial LVT may cost more. Subfloor prep additional if needed.

More Luxury Vinyl Flooring FAQs
Is luxury vinyl plank really waterproof?
Yes, rigid-core LVP (SPC and WPC) is 100% waterproof — the core will not swell, warp, or delaminate from water exposure. This makes it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and laundry rooms in DMV homes.
How does LVP compare to hardwood flooring?
LVP costs 30–50% less than hardwood, is waterproof, and requires less maintenance. Modern LVP is virtually indistinguishable from real wood visually. However, hardwood adds more resale value and can be refinished; LVP cannot.
How long does LVP last?
Quality LVP lasts 15–25 years in residential settings. The wear layer thickness determines durability: 12 mil for light traffic, 20 mil for moderate, 28+ mil for heavy traffic and commercial use.

5.0on Google“We had a last minute major issue in the flooring we selected from another flooring installer on our kitchen renovation and addition. We had initially loved another flooring choice that we saw at 2020 Flooring. Unfortunately we found out it had been discontinued. Carol from 2020 Flooring went above and beyond to help us locate the amount of LVP flooring we needed by scouring the country. She found just the right amount and was able to get the order expedited so we could continue on the time schedule with our general contractor. Bobby from 2020 Flooring was great in helping us remedy an issue with the subfloor. We now have the exact flooring we wanted which has made our new kitchen and addition complete. Can't thank them enough!”
“As an architect, from the moment we walked into 2020 Flooring, upon seeing a standout recommendation on NextDoor, I was immediately impressed with Bobby and Carol's technical expertise, friendliness and professionalism. They asked the right questions, took their time to weigh flooring options for us without pressure and worked hard to meet our budget for new floors for our townhome. They committed to a date for installation and made it work. Their crew, led by Mariano, was highly competent, discrete, meticulous and worked long hours to complete the job in time. They stand by their work proudly and their warranty is better than anyone else's. Our new floors are fabulous and we wholeheartedly recommend 2020 Flooring!”
“I spent many hours trying to select a quality vinyl floor with the right color combination for my house and Carol at IDESIGN made the job easy with a great selection that I am very satisfied with. In general IDESIGN carries a good selection of quality floors but the added value of Carol's design expertise made the difference and I greatly benefited from her help. Thanks Carol😊”
